FIREFLIES

Cork, Ireland

Every now and then, Fireflies abandon their gardens, their teenagers, their rugby matches and their building projects and go out to play footstomping Klezmer music.

In their own inimitable style... Klezmer music is Jewish Wedding Music - lively, dancable, passionful, soulful music which originated in the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The Fireflies are one of Ireland's premier Klezmer bands, and probably one of the first to form. They have presented klezmer music and dance worksops in Cork and Kerry, which together with their highly energetic live performances, have done much to popularise the Klezmer style in Ireland.

Festival performances in recent years include the first World Music Festival in Cork city, Waterford Spraoi, the Tall Ships festival, the Dunlaoghaire Festival of World Cultures, Feile na Bealtaine An Daingean, Sixmilebridge Winter Music Weekend, and Klezfest London. Currently...Regularly gigging at the Crane Lane Theatre in Cork. Various forthcoming gigs in Cork and Kerry.
